Massive new gas infrastructure approval could reshape future industrial development across the Bowen and Surat Basins
A major new coal seam gas expansion approved by the Federal Government is rapidly becoming one of Queensland’s most significant and controversial energy developments, with the project set to extend gas production across the Bowen and Surat Basins for decades.
The approval allows Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) to progressively develop up to 1,695 new gas wells, alongside more than 1,500 kilometres of gas and water pipelines and multiple gas processing facilities.
The project approval extends through to 2081 and is expected to support domestic and export gas supply while significantly expanding Queensland’s long-term gas infrastructure network.
