Construction of the Queensland Aeromedical Precinct has reached the halfway milestone, with ADCO Constructions progressing the major purpose-built aviation and health facility between Brisbane Airport’s parallel runways.
The physical construction project is valued at approximately $217 million, while the Queensland Government’s broader commitment to the precinct and associated long-term operational arrangements is approximately $430 million.
Once operational, the precinct will consolidate major aeromedical and emergency aviation services including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, LifeFlight, Retrieval Services Queensland and Queensland Police Service Aviation Capability Group.
For the construction industry, the milestone shows how far the build has progressed: 2,500 piles, more than 700 tonnes of steel and 300 tilt panels are already in place across an 18,700sqm facility.

The patient-transfer facility is particularly important because patients arriving by aircraft can move through a purpose-designed clinical environment before transfer into road ambulances and Brisbane’s hospital network.
More than 8,000 recent patient movements underline the operational need
Brisbane Airport’s halfway announcement also provides a snapshot of how heavily the existing aeromedical network is already used.
In the year to June 2026, the Royal Flying Doctor Service transported 7,207 patients from 60 regional, rural and remote Queensland communities through Brisbane Airport.
Brisbane-based LifeFlight helicopter crews assisted 603 people, while its jet operations supported another 405 patients.
The construction project is therefore not creating an entirely new service model from scratch.
It is consolidating and expanding infrastructure supporting a high-volume aeromedical network that is already operating every day.
